Overwatch 2 overcharging their players

Post Image

The long-anticipated free-to-play ultimate 5v5 battlefield brawl has been released and has already made waves in the gaming community. Blizzard followed the shift of games like Apex and Fortnite by making their game a free-to-play model, whereas the first Overwatch was not accessible. Fans may not be happy with that change. Blizzard still wanted to make a profit, so instead of making players pay for the game, they made the in-game cosmetics expensive. A simple reskin in the game will cost a player $10, or 1,000 coins, which is way overpriced. If a player wants to attain the skin by earning coins playing the game, realistically, it will take a player more than 10+ weeks to get the number of coins.

Fortnite charges around the same prices for completely different avatars and recolors that justify the costs, so in comparison, $10 for a change of color shows that Blizzard is making moves as a cash grab. As more people complain, we can expect Blizzard to update and fix how they release their skins. Hopefully, there will be a unique skin version that can justify the price. dit.

The difference between Fortnite and Overwatch 2 is that Fortnite made their game evolve by showcasing their skins and playing the game. Overwatch 2 is more on the experience side, so to have comparable prices does not make sense. Apex recently released skins that evolve the more the player ranks up kills. The price might have been hefty, but it was something new and different from the other items you can purchase, making it unique and worth the cost. Fortnite has exclusive DLC sins and even celebrities as skins, so the price is justifiable in their case. Blizzard needs to do more than just change color to make their player base drop their hard-earned money.

Overwatch is still young, and we can expect to see that the season reward and the store skin rotations will get better. The game is already trending, and the player base is growing. Even though the game did experience a little buffer in the beginning with the long wait times in the lobby, the players have looked past that as well because the game is worth it.
